By the end of 2014, Chengdu has a population of 14 million and a GDP increase of 8.9% from the previous year.

More than 40 financial institutions have open branches in Chengdu which is becoming the first city of choice in Western China. Chengdu – Hi-Tech Zone
Comprehensively ranked amongst all state-level Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zones of China, the Chengdu Hi-Tech zone is rated 4th after Beijing Zhongguan village, Shanghai Pudong new area and Shenzhen. The prime industries include finance, software, biological medicine and regional economic headquarters. The GDP growth rate was 14% in 2014. The Chengdu government has large presence in the area.
